The 1970 Mile Relay Track Team won the State Championship in Class A with a time of 3:26:0.  The leadoff runner for the four-man team was Ed Brennan.  Ed was a three time qualifier in the Track & Field State Championships in both the 100 and 220 yard dash.  Additionally, he qualified twice for the State Championships in the Mile Relay.

Tony Monday ran the second leg of the relay.  He qualified for the State Championship in the open 440 yard dash and qualified twice for the State Championship in the Mile Relay.

Roger Witbeck ran the third leg of the relay and also was a two time qualifier in the Mile Relay for the State Championships.

John Shaffer ran the anchor leg of the relay.  John was a three-time qualifier in the State Championships in the open 880 yard dash.  He also qualified once for the State Championships in the Mile Relay.

Against Class A competition, the 1970 Mile Relay Team was never defeated.  They were invited to participate in the Tri-State Classic which fielded the top track teams from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennylvania and finished third.  The Ohio Classic Track Meet included the top teams in Class A, AA and AAA in Ohio and the team again placed third against these predominately larger schools.

The 1970 Mile Relay Team was the first State Championship in any sport at LaGrange and Keystone High School and remains today the only relay team to win a State Championship in Track & Field.
