Constantine “Gus” Patouhas, Class of 1987.  
Gus earned 6 varsity letters at Keystone.  He lettered 3 times in Track & Field and was a member of the Inland Conference championship team as a junior.  In his senior year, Gus placed 2nd in the shot put at the Conference meet and finished 5th in the District meet, narrowly missing a trip to the Regional meet.

Gus excelled in Football earning 3 varsity letters and starting 30 consecutive games from his sophomore year to his senior year.  As a junior, Gus recorded 52 tackles, 4 quarterback sacks and one interception.  Gus led the team to a 7-3 record which remains Keystone’s 2nd best record in school history.

In his senior year as the team’s captain, Gus collected a team high 148 tackles, 8 of which were for negative yardage and 3 quarterback sacks.  He registered 2 fumble recoveries, blocked 2 kicks and performed the long snapping duties for the special teams.  Gus was named 1st team All Lorain County Conference, 1st team All Lorain County and 1st team UPI All Ohio as a nose guard.  Keystone named Gus the school’s Most Outstanding Lineman and he was nominated for the Lombardi Award which honors the county’s outstanding lineman.  Gus also appeared in American Blue Chips, a national publication honoring potential college prospects.

Gus was offered full athletic scholarships to Division I Urbana University, Division II St. Joseph’s (Indiana) and Division II Findlay before accepting grant and aid from Division III Ohio Northern University.  After having knee surgery and being medically red shirted in the first year at ONU, Gus transferred to Division III Baldwin-Wallace College.

At B-W, Gus played 4 years earning 3 varsity letters playing both defensive end and defensive tackle.  Gus started in 31 consecutive games and led B-W to a 25-5-1 record.  He was in integral part of 1 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship, 1 undefeated season and a trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Playoffs.  In 1991, B-W ended the season ranked 5th in the nation.

  As a sophomore, Gus recorded 47 tackles which was 4th on the team.  He was named B-W Player of the Week for his effort versus Mount Union.

  In his junior year, Gus led the defensive line in tackles with 51 and garnered numerous honors.  He was named All-OAC Academic Defensive End, Order of AHEPA Buckeye District College Scholar Athlete of the Year, GTE Academic All District IV Defensive End and All-American Defensive End by Football Gazette.

Prior to his senior year at B-W, Gus was named Preseason All-American Defensive End by the Football Gazette, Preseason All-American Defensive Lineman by College Football Preview and Preseason Academic All-American Defensive Lineman by College Football Preview.  In his senior year, Gus recorded 50 tackles, caused 3 fumbles, recovered 2 fumbles and had 2 quarterback sacks.  For his efforts, Gus was named All-OAC Defensive End, All-American Defensive End by Football Gazette, All-OAC Academic

Defensive End and was awarded the prestigious Dick Van Almen Award which recognizes B-W’s most outstanding lineman. 

Gus has remained active within athletics at B-W.  He has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes since 1989 and the Group Leader for the B-W Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle since 1996.  Gus is currently in his 7th season of coaching at B-W and is responsible for the defensive line at the varsity level.  For the past 5 years, he has also been the Defensive Coordinator for the junior varsity team.
